THE HONGKONG RABITT Sept. 22, 2013

Margaret CHU Cheuk-Wai   Hong Kong Specimen (part II) in mini Ripped rooms

A chinese proverb says a wily rabbit has tree burrows to survive the hunt. Whereas a rabbit got a few dwelling places, Hong Kong people are a sad bunch who got none.

Small and delicate as rabbit, Hong Kong is noted for itts precious space and unbearable rent. Hong Kong people are smart and flexible like rabbit, dwelling in "snail's home" that are as narrow as the rabbit's abdomen: ripped rooms all over the heart, lungs and stomach; box-like rooms and maze-like corridors with numerous doors, partitions and never-ending entrances.

Many old people living alone in the ripped rooms earn their living by collecting scrap paper. Therefore, the work is mainly made of scrap paper to commemorate these poor old people.
